This 4-day intensive, face-to-face course provides electrical workers with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely work with electrical equipment in hazardous areas. The training is aligned with the requirements of the AS/NZS 60079 series and AS/NZS 4761, and focuses on real-world application of explosion-protection principles across gas, vapour and combustible dust environments.
The course combines classroom theory with extensive hands-on practical activities using purpose-built hazardous area training systems and portable training boards. Participants will develop skills in inspection, installation, maintenance, and fault finding of explosion-protected equipment, including interpretation of hazardous area classification drawings, equipment selection, and understanding of ignition risk controls for different hazardous area groups.
Training covers hazardous areas in oil and gas facilities, industrial plants with combustible dust risks, and environments requiring strict control of ignition sources. Practical assessments are conducted in a simulated hazardous area environment, and participants are provided with electronic workbooks for future reference. This course is suited to licensed electricians and those holding a Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent.
